Vicomtech-IK4 is an applied research centre for Interactive Computer Graphics and Multimedia located in the Technology Park of San Sebastian (Basque Country - Spain), currently counting with about 85 researchers (Ph.D., Engineers, Computer Scientists…) and an annual turnover of 5,4M€. One of its main application areas is the healthcare and biotechnology industries, focusing on the development and integration of medical imaging techniques and bioinformatics methods for studying the interactions and interplay of different levels of biological information.

 

Role/activity of organisation in the project

Vicomtech-IK4 is the leader of SP3-Targeting & Diagnostics. We develop and integrate computational technologies and tools for the MRI, microMRI, SPECT and PET images generated within Nanother, including: pre-processing, analysis, management, software interface, communication of images and relevant biomedical data. We investigate computational algorithms and automated tools across a variety of biological scales and time points, as well as a range of imaging modalities.

Key people involved in the project

Dr Shabs Rajasekharan is Director of e-Health and Biomedical Applications at Vicomtech  where he joined in November 2010. Between 2001 and 2007, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Hull (Hull, UK), University of Manchester (Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre/ PET Centre, Free University, Amsterdam) and University College London (Dept of Nuclear Medicine, UCLH) where his research interests included medical imaging and compartmental modelling for PET/CT, SPECT and MRI. He obtained his PhD in Cybernetics and Control Engineering in 2001 at the University of Reading (UK) and is the author of several publications in automatic control, robotics and radiology.

 

Dr Grégory Maclair is researcher in the Biomedical Applications Department at Vicomtech since June 2009 after obtaining his Computer Science PhD in the University of Bordeaux 1 (LaBRI, France). His main research interests are biomedical image processing methods, visualization, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and MR-guided therapy.

Dr Luis Kabongo is researcher in the Biomedical Applications Department at VICOMTech since May 2008 after obtaining his Computer Science PhD in the University of Bordeaux 1 (France). His main research interests are visualisation, human interfaces and simulation applied to medical imaging and therapy treatment devices.
